Day Number 2: tubes, greenwich, penetrating reality, and keith

Thursday, June 14, 2012:

Our second day was another filled with orientation activities. We spent the day bopping around to several of the dance studios we have the option to take classes at and trying to master the infamous tube. The tube happens to be a lot easier to navigate than most of the Subway stations in the U.S., but its just as easy to get confused, lost, left, or shut in the doors (Katelyn Peterfy would know). We also got to see RADA (The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) where we will be taking classes MoWeFr and happened to run into a little Farmers Market in our neighborhood on the way, which we will be attending every Thursday because it was absolutely delish food.

After finding all the studios Shaners let us run free and we ended up seeing St. Paul's and the Tate Museum of Modern Art! Unfortunately, our time at the Museum was cut a little short because the cafe there took forever! Word of the wise, splitting checks in London is like rocket science to waiters here and is not worth the 30 minute wait! I did get to see a really cool exhibit "Poetry and Dream" that had a bunch of different rooms dedicated to different artist or ideas. I loved the room dedicated to John Heartfield's photomontage work (cutting and manipulating photos, its real cool) . It attacked many of the Nazi leaders and idealisms by making fun of them, super political and scandalous at the time.

Later that night we headed to Greenwich, a cute little town on the Thames. Too bad we didn't have more time to walk around because we had to make it to the theatre on time! That just means I will have to make a trip back and spend some time there. WE SAW OUR FIRST SHOW! 2Faced is an all male modern, hiphop, break dancing company and easily the most athletic dancers I have ever seen. No words can really describe how amazingly awesome it was so just take my word for it. After seeing that my attempts to get super buff and strong are laughable...

Anywho, after the show a group of us wandered over to Camden (after making quite a scene on the Tube I might add). We ended up finding a pub with the coolest bartender. Keith, an old Scottish guy and best bartender ever taught us the London ways and bought us a few free drinks including a Blow Job shot (turned out to be absolutely delicious). Safe to say we will be heading back over there very soon!
